Backing & Lane Prediction – ETS2
This mod provides backup-camera-style guide lines for reversing and a forward line for lane positioning. The plugin must be installed separately to draw the lines.
Also available for ATS: Backing & Lane Prediction – ATS.
Reverse guide lines
While you are in reverse, two lines are drawn on the ground from the rear corners of your trailer—or from the truck when bobtailing—along the path it will actually take:
– Red for the first 3 m, yellow up to 8 m, and green out to 15 m, with ticks where the colours change.
– The lines are real objects in the world, so they are visible in every camera and in the mirrors.
– They follow your actual wheel angles, including different steering locks, lift axles, and multi-steer trucks.
– They work with any truck and trailer, including DLC and mod vehicles.
– Single trailers, doubles, and triples are supported, including self-steering trailer axles.
– Distances and line height can be adjusted in a settings file.
Forward line for lane position
In a forward gear, a light, transparent blue line runs along the road from the middle of your front axle, following the path the truck will take and curving with the steering. It is 25 m long at low speeds and up to 40 m at highway speed. At speed, it follows the truck’s actual turn, so it stays true on long bends. Keep it in the middle of your lane. Trailers are ignored because they follow inside the truck’s path.
Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+F9
Each press switches to the next mode, as long as the game window has focus:
– Forward line only
– Reverse lines only
– Both: the forward line in a forward gear and the guide lines in reverse
– Nothing: everything hidden
The next press starts again with the forward line only. Your choice is remembered between games; the first start defaults to Both. You can set a different key in the [hotkey] section of the settings file.
Open source (MIT). Read the full README, user guide, and source code on GitHub before installing: Backing & Lane Prediction on GitHub.
Important: Two parts are required
– The mod provides the models for the lines. Enable it in the Mod Manager.
– The plugin DLL draws the lines and must be downloaded and installed separately: Backing & Lane Prediction – plugin download. Exit the game and run Install.bat. It copies ats_reverse_overlay.dll—the filename is the same for both games—into Euro Truck Simulator 2binwin_x64plugins and, if you have it, American Truck Simulatorbinwin_x64plugins. The installer creates the folder if needed.
When you start the game with the plugin installed, it displays a notice about “advanced SDK features.” This is expected.
Requirements
– Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.61 (plugin 0.5.0 or newer)
– Windows 64-bit
Settings and troubleshooting
The plugin download includes a full user guide (User_Guide.md) covering installation, settings, troubleshooting, and what happens after game updates.
Settings file: DocumentsEuro Truck Simulator 2ats_reverse_overlay.ini. It is created on first start, and changes apply while driving.
Log file: DocumentsEuro Truck Simulator 2ats_reverse_overlay.log. The first lines indicate whether the plugin found what it needs for your game version and which mode the shortcut is set to.
– No lines at all: Check that the DLL is in binwin_x64plugins and that the mod is enabled. Then press Ctrl+Shift+F9; the mode may be set to show nothing.
– Plugin does not load at all: The DLL is not digitally signed yet, so Windows Smart App Control or antivirus software may block it.
